Noel Gyger - WEEKLY FISHING REPORT dated January 6 – January 13, 2008
(Number 53)
Dear Fishing Friends:
SUMMARY: Fishing for Steelhead this winter has been good on a number of our local rivers. The weather has been a bit on the cool side and sometimes wet but that will not stop dedicated Steelheaders from going out.
Thank you to those who have sent me their vote for best 2007 fishing Photo of the Week. Keep those votes coming. It is wonderful to hear from you. I will let you know at the end of January which one received the most votes.
LIST OF “New” ITEMS POSTED ON THE WEBSITE THIS WEEK:
- Jan 1/08 Vote for your favorite 2007 Photo of The Week www.noelgyger.ca/photos-of-the-week
- Jan 12/08 Info to book the guided Steelhead “Season Opener” March 15 on the Kalum River http://www.noelgyger.ca/news-bulletin.htm
- Jan 13/08 One item posted on Market Place http://www.noelgyger.ca/market-place.htm
NOW BOOKING FOR 2008 Let me know if I can be of service to book you with the 'best' fishing guide and/or fishing lodges. There are NO extra charges to book through me, just a lot of free information and advice from a person with years and years of fishing and fish guiding experience. It is like hiring two guides for the price of one. I will promptly answer your questions and concerns. Cast here http://noelgyger.ca/special-guided.htm to read more of what I have to offer.
Many people book three trips per year to our area; one trip in the spring (March-April-May), one trip in the summer (June-July-August) and one trip in the fall (September-October-November). They love having the same guide but fishing for different fish in different areas.
Be sure to check out my website at www.noelgyger.ca for news bulletins, mid week fishing updates, conservation, my history, quality waters strategy, special guided fishing trips, video clips, scenic river photos, wildlife photos and others, comments from past guests, informational articles, archived fishing reports from 1996 through 2002 and a sportfishing market place. I hope it meets with your entire satisfaction.

CURRENT REPORT and summary for Northern Coastal Rivers:
Fishing Report from: Ron Wakita of Reliable Guide and Charters
KITIMAT RIVER: With the Christmas decorations been put away may create some time to think about fishing. The weather in the Kitimat area is far from optimal. We have had one of the more severe winters with more snow than we have had in recent years. I met a couple of anglers in our tackle store who were going to brave the elements and fish for some trout. I directed them to the Sawmill, Cable Car, Humphry's and Goose Creek. These are all fishing spots on the Kitimat River that usually produce this time of the year. More importantly, they are fishing spots with easy accessibility. They said they would call me or stop back into the store with the fishing results. As soon as I receive the info I will forward the info in this report. Stay tuned if winter trout fishing is of interest to you.
My guiding company, Reliable Guide and Charters Ltd. is starting to do booking trips for the 2008 season. I just booked two couples to do a four day drift boat package for Steelhead. We have also received numerous inquiries for Salt water charters. The 2008 Chinook season has created the most interest as this season's projections for Chinook are extremely good. Please contact Noel for booking details.
DOUGLAS CHANNEL: Weather conditions have prohibited any fishing activity in the Douglas Channel. I have spoken to many Salt anglers who are itching to get out including myself. When weather permits stay tuned to this report for fishing information in the Douglas Channel. We can expect winter Chinook fishing to start any time.

CURRENT REPORT and summary for Central Coast/North Van Island Wilderness Rivers:
Fishing Report from: Nimmo Bay Resort
This is a great shot of one of our lunch spots. A coast range restaurant that is never crowded. After a morning of fishing, we can come here to eat, drink and think our way to the afternoon fishery. Over 50,000 sq. miles from sea level to seven thousand feet is available to us and our guests. The glacier here is a magnificent piece of ice, slowly retreating and melting as our climate gets warmer. We have noticed glaciers disappear over the 27 years we have been flying the coast.
It is time we all had a good look at what we do within our environments and how do we reduce our carbon footprints and reliance on fossil fuels. Nimmo Bay is very active in these areas and is a part of a new Sustainable tourism collective to understand the best practices of its members and how to position tourism in BC as a Sustainable Industry into the future. We all have to ask ourselves if this government wants tourism to double its revenues by 2015, how do they plan to do that without doubling the carbon footprint of the industry?
I trust many of BC’s tourism people will be at the Tourism Industry Conference Feb. 20 – 22 in Vancouver at the Wall Centre. Perhaps I will see you there.

Note from Noel: This year in 2007, out of 10 Heli fishing and tour resorts and lodges from around the world, Nimmo Bay Resort was voted number one by the prestigious, New York based Forbes Traveler magazine. Congratulations Craig, Deborah and staff.

2007 SEASON REVIEW:
The photo is of a beautiful wild Steelhead and Evgeny Lebedeff of Moscow, Russia. A long way to travel and fish but Evgeny and his two fishing buddies really enjoyed themselves. They booked with me in late September 2007 and their guide was Dustin Kovacvich of Nicholas Dean Lodge. They booked for five days, traveled a lot of country and fished many different rivers.

To: Nicholas Dean Lodge: “Great fishing! Fabulous company!” – Bob Owen

Report Description:
The photo of the week shows me with a male Steelhead landed a few years ago. The other gentleman is Italo Labignan of Canadian Sport Fishing www.canadian-sportfishing.com Over the years Italo and I have shot over 11 television fishing shows in northwest BC for both Steelhead and Salmon. We were doing a shoot on the Kalum River in the spring. The wild Steelhead at this time come in all colours. The males usually are darker than the females. Some fish have been in the river all winter and some have just come in. You don’t know which ones you are going to catch. Just “kiss em” all and let em go! If you are interested to watch any of these fishing shows on DVD please contact Italo.

Noel Gyger - WEEKLY FISHING REPORT dated December 30 – January 6, 2008
(Number 52)
Dear Fishing Friends:
SUMMARY: I am celebrating “one year” of publishing the fishing reports, hope you will celebrate with me. Yes, it’s been one year. How time flies. The first report, in this new series, was sent out on January 7, 2007 exactly 52 weeks ago to a new e-mail list. I would like to thank everyone who signed up over the year to receive them.
Winter Steelheading is in full swing on a number of our local rivers. The day time air temperatures have been hovering around zero to plus one. Sometimes rain, sometimes snow. Anyway, typical fishing conditions for this time of year. Most all rivers are low and clean. Be careful walking on the ice near the edges. The Kitimat River is fishing OK for Trout if you can find some open water.
Thank you to those who have sent me their vote for best 2007 fishing Photo of the Week. Keep those votes coming. It is wonderful to hear from you.

2007 SEASON REVIEW:
As we approach mid winter my mind “drifts” back to a particular warm summer day in July 4th, 2007. My family and I were fishing with ocean charter guide Wes Owen who operates out of the Douglas Channel near Kitimat. We thought if the fishing for Chinook was slow we would try to “net” some Dungeness Crab. Wes said we should be able to catch both. He was correct. We did catch both and we had a great day. Wes is a first class guy. We all were very comfortable on his 11 foot beam, Bayliner 'Lil Kris'. Check out the video clip at: Video Clip 0005 Title: A day with charter guide Wes Owen…or check out the full report (to warm your bones from the winter chills) at http://www.noelgyger.ca/weekly-fishing-reports/july-1-8_2007.doc

GUEST FISHING PHOTOS:
The photo above was sent to me by Genady Davidov. Genady and his two fishing friends had booked a guided fishing trip with me and they said they had a “great” time. They were guided to many different rivers and caught many Steelhead, Salmon, Trout and Dolly Varden Char.

Noel Gyger - WEEKLY FISHING REPORT dated December 23 – December 30, 2007
Dear Fishing Friends:
SUMMARY: Happy New Year everyone! Winter Steelheading is in full swing although the cold weather has slowed it down a bit. Sometimes it only means shorter fishing days but the “determined” fishermen are still getting out there. Some would say they’re “crazy”! The Zymoetz (Copper) River closes to angling above the sign at the transmission line crossing (below Zymoetz Canyon) at the end of the month (January 1 to June 15). So get out and enjoy before the closure. To be clear just the upper reaches of the river are closed one still may angle on the very low end, just make sure you fish below the boundary at the first canyon. The Kalum River is open to angling all winter although access to some pools are difficult as to the extreme low water and snow. The Kitimat River is open all winter also and if we get some warmer weather fishing for Trout should be OK.

Fishing Report from: Nimmo Bay Resort
One of Nimmo Bay's fabulous lunch hideouts. After a morning of fabulous fishing, you have this to look forward to. A gourmet picnic on a remote west coast Vancouver Island beach. The wine is at the proper temperature, the food is prepared to perfection and the coffee & tea is just what you ordered.
There are few nicer places on this earth, especially those places where there are no other people to impose on your most memorable moments.
When the snow is on the ground and the ice is on the water, moments like this keep us focused on what is to come when spring and summer arrive.
For those of you who have not called Noel to reserve your Heli-fishing adventure for 2008, it is time to do just that. Get a jump start in the new year and commit to your angling odyssey as soon as possible. You'll be glad you did.

To: Nicholas Dean Lodge: “First time Salmon fishing, heavy learning curve, enjoyed ourselves immensely – thanks to all.”' – Jim Purcell and Don Berggren, Ontario
To: Randy’s River Guiding: 'Hi to all fisher friends around the world, since 1996 we know Noel Gyger and Randy Marshall and we would like to thank both of them for the great time we had out on the river together and that it will be even better in next years.
We have seen lots of wildlife, rivers and even the ocean.
Where ever I made a cast I caught fish...now isn't that something?
I by myself caught over the years more than 100 Steelhead and there was even one over 30 pounds.
All I know about fishing in BC I learned from Randy and due to Noel I have had the chance to fish the Copper and the Kalum more than once, so I wish both of them a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, and some more good years fishing together. All the best to all fisher friend too.' Guy and Astrid, Luxembourg

Noel Gyger - WEEKLY FISHING REPORT dated December 16 – December 23, 2007
(Number 50)
Dear Fishing Friends:
SUMMARY: Merry Christmas everyone! Winter Steelheading is in full swing. Some rivers are iced up on the edges so be very careful when walking on these ledges.

Here is how to get to a shore lunch to remember. Eating a gourmet feast at the foot of, and surrounded by, a 10,000 year old glacier. Lot’s of ice for those tall cool ones.
Each day brings a new exciting adventure when you're Heli-fishing at Nimmo Bay.
Noel's client anglers will call him just to find out about this incredible adventure. 2008 fishing is just around the corner.

2007 SEASON REVIEW:
My mind drifts back to warmer days when Nicholas Dean Lodge invited me to spend some time with them at their out-post camp on the Skeena River in mid August. The scenery at their camp is nothing short of spectacular; soaring, snow-capped mountains, a large wild river and abundant wildlife are your backdrop as you cast for the Skeena’s legendary wild Steelhead and Salmon. Yes, you can catch all specie in one day…and on the fly rod… that is real special. The young lady in the photo caught this fresh Sockeye on her fly rod.
The camp consists of two-person sleeping tents, cook shack, dry room and a privy. The sleeping tents are quipped with bunks and mosquito netting and pup tents are available for the kids. Hot breakfast, lunch and dinner are served at the cook shack; you can dine at the table or take your meal with you to your favorite fishing spots.
I truly had a great time! I managed to shoot many video clips three of which are posted on the website http://www.noelgyger.ca/video-clips-web.htm They are Steelhead video clips #0043, 0044 and 0045.
The week Aug 17 – 23, 2008 is already booked up. Contact me soon for other available dates. Skeena Camp Package $2195 CDN includes 5 days guided fishing, 6 night’s meals and accommodation at the camp.

Noel Gyger - WEEKLY FISHING REPORT dated December 2 – December 9, 2007
(Number 48)
Dear Fishing Friends:
SUMMARY: It has been very cold all week with highs of only minus 10 and lows of minus 15. This is just too cold to fish. I know we drifted on the Kalum River years ago when it was minus 12 but our drift boat had an enclosed canopy and a propane heater. We could only pull plugs (Lure Jensen hot-shots) as it was too cold to do any casting…and yes we caught Steelhead. The weatherman says it should warm up next week. The anglers are really looking forward to that.

Report Description:
The photo of the week shows a very large Steelhead landed and released on the Skeena River by Alberto, from Italy. The male fish measured 46.45 inches in length, 26.8 in girth, based on the formula: Girth squared x length x 1.33 divided by 1000 = approximate weight 44-pounds. A little more detail is shown below of this fantastic catch landed with a fly rod but be sure to check my website next week when I will be able to post a complete article. The anglers describe their experience as “breathless”. Photo courtesy of Luciano Dubinelli

Noel Gyger - WEEKLY FISHING REPORT dated November 25 – December 2, 2007
(Number 47)
Dear Fishing Friends:
SUMMARY: I think this is the first time I have to say the fishing is POOR. The weather has been very cold all week. It has gotten down to -15 at night and a day time high of only -5. Unless you have a heater in the eyes of your fishing rod they are going to freeze up. Hopefully the extreme cold weather won’t last too long. This would be a good time to service your rods and terminal tackle while you wait for a break in the weather.

SKEENA RIVER: The water is in good shape. It has been dropping all week. Should be a few Steelhead and Trout one can catch…although a little cold right now.
KALUM RIVER: The water, both upper and lower sections are in excellent shape and fishing for Steelhead is good…although it is very cold and windy (northerly out-flow) right now. The water height is normal for this time of year and is beginning to drop-down to its “winter-low”.
Since the River flows out of a lake (Kalum Lake) its water temperature is usually warmer than other rivers which means the river does not “usually” freeze-over. Although under the right conditions (very low water, heavy snow and cold temperatures) it will freeze-over.
If it starts snowing heavy and the air temperature stays very cold “slush” will form. The slush floats with the current until it gets hung up in the shallow “tail-outs”. The slush backs up and if it stays cold it will freeze into a solid mass blocking off the river and drift boat access.
This does not happen every year because usually when a cold snap breaks and it starts snowing the air temperature warms up rapidly. So much so that sometimes the snow turns to rain. Then there is no problem with the river freezing over.
This is a Classified River year round and can be guided from March 15 through October 15 only. The Steelhead record is 32-pounds. To see a photo of this fish cast to: http://noelgyger.ca/records/Record003.jpg The angler is Dennis Therrien.

Fishing Report from: Nicholas Dean Lodge for the Week of November 25 to December 1, 2007
Cold has been the name of the game during the past week in Terrace. Temperatures have dropped from mostly above zero earlier in the week, to subzero temperatures during the day. This had the effect of keeping rivers low and clean and, although there are certainly some great fish to be caught, the icing of guides and cold weather in general makes it just that little bit more difficult. Because of the amount of line shooting through the guides and the diameter of the line itself, fly fishing does not bode as well for colder conditions as conventional fishing methods, such as float fishing or spoon fishing. Not surprisingly then, a few anglers who were conventional fishing last week did fairly well given the conditions. Jeff Langley stopped by the lodge yesterday and told stories of a big Steelhead that he landed that was 39 by 20 inches - the 'mythical' 20 lb fish. I have to get out fishing more...
On a more personal note, I will be heading back home to Ontario to visit with my girlfriend, family and friends for the Christmas holidays, so I just wanted to take the time to wish you all the best for a great holiday season this year. Take care, and I hope to see you at the lodge next year!
Best regards and tight lines,
Chad Black

CURRENT REPORT and summary for Northern Coastal Rivers:
Fishing Report from: Ron Wakita of Reliable Guide and Charters
KITIMAT RIVER: The snow has dropped lower on the mountains and mercury has also dropped in the thermometer. The cold bite of winter is here. Despite the elements two groups ventured out to fish cutthroat this week. I did not hear back from the one group but the other group caught six trout in a four hour outing. They caught most of the trout at Wedeene Park which is typically one of the hot spots for trout. Another spot worthy of trying is the Old Sawmill as it is also usually very good for winter fishing. There are still good fishing opportunities in the North West but dressing appropriately is an absolute must. Neoprene waders are great and thermal layering is a must. Good gloves and toques are also a good idea.
DOUGLAS CHANNEL: There were a few winter springs caught in the harbour last week but no boat activity on the Douglas this week. I drove down to the Marina and spoke to Don Pearson the owner of Moon Bay Marina and he said 'it's just too cold and windy to be out there'.
Looking back to warmer times helps me get through the winter fishing withdrawals. Looking at some pictures really helps. Included in this report are some pictures of those warmer times.

CURRENT REPORT and summary for Central Coast/North Van Island Wilderness Rivers:
Fishing Report from: Nimmo Bay Resort
Music night is one thing that Nimmo Bay guests look forward to. Georgia Murray and Clifton Murray are professional singers (Clifton being on Canadian Idol this year). Music is one of the three key ingredients that makes Nimmo Bay a successful business. There is music in the chalets, music in the main lodge, music in the pool hall and ipods in the helicopters with 5000 tunes at the pilot’s fingertips.
Humour, music and detail are the ingredients that keep us going and the guests coming back. There are 10 guitars, 1 piano, 1 cello, 1 violin and numerous percussion instruments at Nimmo Bay as guests often add to the mix with their talents. Nights are just as lively as the days. Perhaps if you call Noel you can get in on the fun at Nimmo Bay. 2008 is just around the corner and we start with Steelhead fishing. It's your turn.

2007 SEASON REVIEW:
Size of the Skeena River Salmon and Steelhead run for 2007
- A fishing guide perspective
While we wait for a report from the Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) as to the run size, I thought you may be interested to know what a professional guide had to say. In this regard, I have asked Dustin Kovacvich, head guide and lodge manager for Nicholas Dean Lodge, for his analyses. Here is his summary:
Steelhead
Spring – GOOD
Spring Coastal Rivers – GOOD
Skeena summer-run – POOR
Fall-run – FAIR (average)
Late fall and winter-run - GOOD
Chinook Salmon
Spring – GOOD
Summer – FAIR (average)
Coho Salmon
Summer-run – POOR
Fall-run – VERY POOR
Sockeye
Skeena summer-run – GOOD
Pinks
Skeena summer-run – FAIR (average)
Trout and Dolly Varden Char
All waters – GOOD
Kitimat River
Chinook – GOOD
Coho – FAIR
Chum – POOR
Steelhead – FAIR at times, slow due to poor water conditions.
Notes:
• The flood on the Skeena slowed down demand for fishing but did not slow down the fish
• On average water was higher this year then previous and fishing was a little tougher. An angler had to adjust to the higher water.
• The Coho and Steelhead were of a larger size this year. It seems like when the fish are larger the run is smaller.
LODGE GUEST TESTIMONIALS:
To: Nimmo Bay Resort: “Take the best vacation you’ve ever had, multiply it by ten and you have Nimmo Bay”, Brittney Rogers
To: Nicholas Dean Lodge: “What a splendid fishery! Where else can you stand on a river bank and let the fish 'come to you.' Six different species landed at one spot in the same day. The Steelhead are spectacular and the Sockeye and Coho are hot! Thanks to Chad for his warm hospitality, Jean for great food and Cam and Sky for great guiding' – Bob Tacy, California, USA

Noel Gyger - WEEKLY FISHING REPORT dated November 18 – November 25, 2007
(Number 46)
Dear Fishing Friends:
SUMMARY: Weather has been cold all week. It got down to -1 to -4 at night and there is now snow on the ground. All the rivers are low and clean. The Skeena has been dropping most of the week. Fishing for Steelhead on the Zymoetz (Copper) and Kalum Rivers is fair as access is getting a little more difficult. The water is very low and the fish are “spooked”. There seems to be a good run of Steelhead in the rivers now. These fish will stay in the river all winter and spawn in the late spring. For a Kitimat River and Douglas Channel update please check out the Ron Wakita report below.

KALUM RIVER: The water (both upper and lower) is in excellent shape and the fishing is good for Steelhead. The water height is normal for this time of year. Due to the recent snow fall access to the river is getting more difficult.
This is a Classified River year round and can be guided from March 15 through October 15 only. The Steelhead record is 32-pounds. To see a photo of this fish cast to: http://noelgyger.ca/records/Record003.jpg The angler is Dennis Therrien.

Fishing Report from: Nicholas Dean Lodge for the Week of November 18 to 24, 2007
Current Report: Cold, stable weather has led to a drop in fishing conditions. In my opinion, I’d say from good to fair. As the air temperatures drop so does the water height. As Steelhead fishing is fair it is getting more difficult to maintain that status as the fish are less aggressive and are holding in the deeper slow moving water and they “spook” very easily. Smaller and smaller terminal tackle and a stealthy approach to the pools and runs are needed now. In addition, I have observed ice forming on the edge and slush drifting in the current of the main stem Skeena River. The bonus with this kind of weather is the beauty of the day when the sun shines and the out-flow winds stay calm.
Our lodge is closed now for another season but we are looking forward to 2008 with a “season-opener” on March 15 on the Kalum River. Please contact Noel, the old pro for details, questions and to book your week. I would not wait too long as we have a limited number of clients we can book on classified water…and this is to keep the guiding experience as “quality”. See you in the spring…
Until next week, tight lines and screaming reels…

CURRENT REPORT and summary for Northern Coastal Rivers:
Fishing Report from: Ron Wakita of Reliable Guide and Charters
KITIMAT RIVER: The River is low and clean and folks who can brave the colder temperatures are enjoying the Trout fishing. With the low water the wading is easy. Pick a good day and get out and enjoy yourself.
DOUGLAS CHANNEL: There are some winter (Chinook) springs in the bay. Andreas was the only boat out yesterday and he landed five feeder springs. They were all small fish around 3-4-pounds so he released them all. At least this tells us the fish are there and it is just a matter of time and maybe some luck when you will hook some bigger ones to bring home. You may as well drop a crab trap or two also. So get out and enjoy..

KITIMAT RIVER: The River is in great shape today but it was higher earlier in the week from the rain and snow. There have been a few anglers fishing for Cutthroat and they found a couple runs that had some resident Dolly Varden. As they said, 'it's just nice to get out in the fresh air and if there is fish around to make it interesting'. The Northwest is a great place to live if you want to fish. I spoke to local anglers in our tackle store on Friday they were going to fish the Kitimat River for trout this weekend. Another couple of guys were heading to the Kalum for Steelhead. There were other anglers including myself that are going to fish the Kitimat harbour for winter springs. Such is life in the Northwest.
DOUGLAS CHANNEL: There were some winter springs caught in the harbour last weekend but the boats I spoke to today (Saturday) at Moon Bay Marina were all complaining about the Killer Whales. There was 'no rain', 'no wind' but because of the Killer Whales 'no fish'. I should have gone steelheading on the Kalum. Such is the life in the fishing world. The plan for most of the Skippers is to go watch the 'Kitimat Ice Demons' our local Hockey team play Terrace tonight and give it another try tomorrow. Such is life in Kitimat.

CURRENT REPORT and summary for Central Coast/North Van Island Wilderness Rivers:
Fishing Report from: Nimmo Bay Resort
Access to remote, pristine rivers is supplied by the Nimmo Bay magic carpet. We fish where others do not. Our territory covers 50,000 Sq. Miles, and we fly from sea level to seven thousand feet. The whole fishery is catch and release, and the shore lunches are very memorable.
Just you and your party to cover North Vancouver Island and the adjacent mainland. There are classified and unclassified rivers to fish and explore, and at the end of the day you return to Nimmo Bay for a coastal feast and a sleep that you only dream about.
Give Noel a call and confirm your space for 2008 for a Steelhead, salmon or a trout trip.

2007 SEASON REVIEW:
This is a brief glance back to August when Andrew Rushton (L) of Kalum River Lodge posed with his guest Chuck. Chuck nervously holds up a Skeena River wild, summer-run Steelhead for a quick photo. He did not want to drop the fish and so you know…he did not and the fish was gently released back into the water. This group caught quite a few Steelhead but also landed Salmon including Chinook (King) Salmon using both fly and spin tackle.

Noel Gyger - WEEKLY FISHING REPORT dated October 28 – November 4, 2007
(Number 43)
Dear Fishing Friends:
Angling for all Salmon, in our rivers, is over for another year signified by the Coho closure on October 31. In general I think it was a good year. Steelhead is the only target fish now along with the smaller resident Cutthroat and Dolly Varden Char. Even with all the rain we’ve had the rivers have stayed in shape and the fishing for Steelhead has been very good especially on the Kalum and Zymoetz (Copper) Rivers. The snow line is low and all the rain has stayed in the mountains as snow. Check below for the Kitimat area report from Ron Wakita and all the NEW stuff added to my website this week.
Kudos…to the Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) for keeping an eye on the Salmon runs.
Kudos…to Terrace mayor Jack Talstra wants way to protect Skeena River by creating new authority. To read more detail please cast to Conservation webpage at: http://www.noelgyger.ca/conservation.htm NEW as of October 31
Kudos… to the group who formed the Skeena Wild Conservation Trust (SWCT). To read more detail please cast to Conservation webpage at: http://www.noelgyger.ca/conservation.htm NEW as of October 31
There are two NEW items posted on Market Place on November 3. To view please cast to: http://www.noelgyger.ca/market-place.htm
There is a NEW wildlife photo posted Scenic Photos on November 3. To view please cast to: http://www.noelgyger.ca/for-sale-videos-dvd-photos.htm
*** If any of you have special fishing photos, scenic river photos or wildlife photos I would love to see them. Scroll below to view GUEST FISHING PHOTOS.
Please cast to http://noelgyger.ca/special-guided.htm to view open dates for the guides and lodges. The only lodge and guide operation that is still taking bookings for 2007 is Nicholas Dean Lodge. They would be delighted to guide you on the Zymoetz (Copper) River for Steelhead (or other rivers). The weather may be getting colder and wetter but if you dress properly and you want pools and runs to yourself and no crowding book NOW. It is not too late.
Cast here http://noelgyger.ca/special-guided.htm to read more of what I have to offer and review the latest updates regarding last minute openings. Contact me for all the details and to book. These dates are updated on the website whenever there is a change.

Fishing Report from: Chad Black of Nicholas Dean Lodge for the Week of October 28 to November 3, 2007
You can definitely tell that winter is approaching quickly in the Skeena region. During the past week, the weather has been cooling off consistently and it’s been a common sight to see the snow line dropping with each morning. This is in itself a good thing though, as it has a tendency to put swollen rivers back into shape! Our last guests of the season experienced decent Steelhead fishing on Skeena River tributaries despite less than ideal conditions.
Chris Welch and Patrick Marlborough used Spey rods and Skagit heads to deliver Popsicle-like wet flies through smooth holding water, and had several successful days. Jeff Bright and Martin Walker also experienced some of the Skeena’s finest early Winter Steelhead fishing. After a half hour hike-in yesterday, Martin and Jeff landed 4 bright Steelhead, one of which was 20 lbs. There’s nothing like the pull of a Steelhead to warm an angler’s spirits on a cold day!
At the end of our season, it is great to reflect on all of the positive experiences we’ve had this year with both our guests and the fish of the Skeena. A big thank you goes out to our guests for making this year so successful – it has truly been a pleasure, and we look forward to another great year in 2008.
Wishing you all the best in your angling experiences this fall and winter, and hopefully our lines will cross in the near future.
Until next week, tight lines and screaming reels.

CURRENT REPORT and summary for Northern Coastal Rivers:
Fishing Report from: Ron Wakita of Reliable Guide and Charters
KITIMAT RIVER: After last week's nasty winds and down pouring of rain, this week's river fishing conditions have been fair. The river level and clarity has remained fishable and some anglers have ventured out to do some Cutthroat trout fishing. Success has been marginal but they were just happy to catch a couple. The tackle that they were using was float fishing earth worms.
Anglers are reminded that the retention of Coho closed October 31st on the Kitimat River. Trout retention quota on the Kitimat is two per day over 30cm.
DOUGLAS CHANNEL: The nasty winds last week had more severe consequences on the Douglas Channel. One of the docks at Moon Bay Marina broke loose and some boats also broke free in the high winds. A few boats suffered significant damage but damages were reduced due the quick response of boat owners and marina staff. Many boat owners have pulled their boats out of the water in preparation for the winter. The boat owners who have left their boats in the water are prepared to monitor the weather conditions and check their boats often. Such is life in the boating world on the North Coast.

CURRENT REPORT and summary for Central Coast/North Van Island Wilderness Rivers:
Fishing Report from: Nimmo Bay Resort
Jim and Pam are in awe of the moment. This big Cedar was alive before Christ walked this earth and when the runs of salmon were so thick you could walk on them.
There are things in life that are sacred and need to be seen and touched. This is one of our goals with people. Give them an experience that they will never forget and it may not always be big fish.
This Cedar is 52 feet in circumference at the base and has been hugged by many an angler. This is the perfect example of catch and release logging, and thank goodness it was just too big to cut. It remains today as a testimony of what the world was like prior to the coming of mankind to this coast.
Nimmo Bay has many of these surprises. From sea level through thirteen thousand feet to the top of Mt. Waddington, there are wonders to soften the most hardened heart and experiences to many to take in by just visiting us once.
As I said last week, contact Noel to book. You'll be glad you did.
